28 Nov 2025 ~ TEARS DROPPING UPWARDS
Share
It has been raining since 8 o clock this morning. It is the kind of rain I like most, soft drenching showers that adds a sort of slowness to the day.
In spite of the rain, I still managed to notice something about the figs in Riaan’s tree. All the figs are growing with their fat side towards the heavens.
My mind immediately made a connection between the drops falling from the sky and the tear shaped fruit facing the opposite direction. It’s almost as if I can see figs falling towards the heavens. It’s like tears dropping upwards.
Isn’t this exactly whereto grief is directed, like prayers. Grief is supposed to be upward, not inward feeling sorry for myself, nor outward to make others feel sorry for me. Even David felt that up would be the direction of his tears and wrote poetically that God puts his tears in a bottle.
As the clouds release the rain to fall to the ground, quenching all life on earth, grief should be directed upwards in order for us to feel comforted. Though we will always carry the loss and will always experience the ebb and flow of grief, I believe that crying upwards is the only way to truly restore some form of balance in our hearts…
