My Gallery’s Special Corner

My Gallery’s Special Corner

I finished my “Crying Upwards” painting last week, and this week I had the privilege of exhibiting it for the first time at a beautiful little venue in Vanderbijlpark called “Kunstedraai.” It is an art school situated on a bend in Offenbach street, which is exactly what Kunstedraai means ~ clever! And of course they have a lovely coffee shop called Offenbach’s Coffee.

The exhibition hosted numerous artists from the surrounding area, and almost 200 pieces were on display. I was surprised by the quality of works on offer. It is surprising to see how many talented artists are out there, sitting behind easels, working on their next masterpieces.

The venue, the hosts, the artists, the art - everything was just perfect. WOW!!!

After the exhibition, when I rehung my artworks on my gallery wall, it came to me how special “Crying Upwards” has become to me. Actually, this occurred to me when I was replacing the tags around the painting.

Each tag contains names of loved ones who passed away. Not my loved ones, but family or friends of people who have read my watercolor journal that accompanies the painting. People who have expressed their gratefulness for the opportunity to have known and loved someone who is not with them anymore.

I realized that there is now something very special, maybe even sacred, about this corner of my gallery where “Crying Upwards” is hanging on the wall.
